f the time has come for you to find a new mattress, don’t rush into it. There is a great deal more to this choice than you might think. A mattress is something that will last for years, and now is the opportunity to completely revolutionise the way you sleep! The team at Dreamers Bed Centre have specialised in sleep comfort for many years, and have put together this brief guide to show you what you need to do when making your upcoming purchase.

  1.     Check the Size

This is the obvious one. Be sure to know the size of bed you’re buying for, and make sure you double-check it. Buying a double mattress for a king sized bed is an easy mistake to make, but will likely end up in great irritation when you end up sliding around. On the other hand, you may realise after purchasing a double mattress that your bed is actually only three-quarter sized. If you don’t have explicit information to hand about the exact size of your bed, grab a tape measure before guessing. A small single bed is usually 75cm wide by 190cm long, while a single is 90cm wide and 190cm long. A queen-size, or three-quarter, measures 120cm by 190cm. A double measures 135cm by 190cm. A king is 150 by 200, and a super-king is 180 by 200. Getting it right straight away will save you a big headache and lots of discomfort later on.

  1. 2.    Read up on Materials

It’s tempting to be thrifty and go for the cheapest thing you can find. However, a mattress is an important investment for your future life, so it’s important to think of what kind of sleeper you are and what you might want out of your perfect mattress. Longevity is important, as it will save you money and discomfort in the long run. Memory foam and medical grade foam are both great for this, as their average lifespans come in at over ten years apiece. If you’re looking for something longer-lasting, spring mattresses are unlikely to last as long, but can still be great quality and are often much more affordable.

  1.    Consider your needs

Do you have trouble sleeping due to a bad back or neck? Don’t suffer in silence – it may have something to do with your old mattress, and now is the time to rectify that. Opt for a medical grade foam mattress for extra support and fast cooling, resulting in complete comfort.

  1.    Give it a test drive

Don’t be embarrassed to “try out” a mattress when you are searching. How it feels is extremely important. Lie down, still, for a few minutes. Roll around. Press it down with your hands to test for lumps or irregularities. Don’t rush – take time to make your decision. It will be worth it.
