Investing in a brand new bed is a big deal! Beds last for years – even decades – so if you have the opportunity to search for a new one, you really ought to grab it with both hands. This could be the beginning of years of comfortable sleeping, or the start of a lumpy, creaky nightmare. It’s up to you to put the work in and find the best possible option. To how do you choose your perfect bed? Well, take a look below for some top tips.

  1. Decide what you want before you start to look

This is extremely important. If you and your partner are looking for a bed, you need to sit down together and make sure you’re on the same page – in terms of size, feel and look. You need to find the right bed together if you’re going to be sharing; it isn’t a one-person job. If you’re looking for a bed on your own, it may be a little easier. Don’t let yourself feel rushed or hassled, just sit down and write a list of everything you’re looking for and everything you want to avoid. Then get searching!

  1. Visit multiple stores

Don’t plump for the first option. Even if you think you’ve found the best bed in the shop, it might not be the best bed for you overall. Make sure you’ve tried a few places and feel that you have made the best possible choice before you buy. Don’t even think about going online and ordering without seeing the bed “in the flesh”!

  1. Looks aren’t everything

In bed stores, it’s expected that you’ll want to try out a bed before you buy it. Make sure you have a good lie down for a reasonable period of time before you decide. If there are two of you, you both need to try it to be sure that you’re in agreement.

  1. Make sure it fits

Of course, your bed needs to look great with the rest of your furniture, but make sure that you actually have space for it in your room! You don’t just need to consider the other furniture, but also how much space you’re used to using and how much you’re willing to sacrifice (or gain!). Get the measuring tape out and work out what would be the minimum and maximum size of bed you could deal with.

  1. Special features

Buying a new bed can also prove an excellent opportunity to solve other problems too. If you’re short of cupboard space, you can find yourself a bed with built in storage underneath. If you struggle with a bad back, get hold of a spring or slat bed – as they provide the best support. You can even get adjustable bed that can be moved to suit your preferred sleeping position!
