Memory foam mattresses are without a doubt, one of our best selling mattresses. The comforting and sumptuous layer of pressure relieving foam creates an unresistable desire for most people’s night sleep. The contouring effect which allows you to feel snuggled into the foam creates a comfort like no other.

Memory foam has been around for many years, it first started as a NASA project in the 1970’s, where they set out to improve seat cushioning and crash protection for airline pilots and passengers. This new development would also be used to relieve astronauts of the incredible g-forces, that they expereience during lift off. Nasa believed that the fundamentals of this, was to produce a foam that would contour to each indiviudals body shape, which is what we call ‘visco-elastic’ memory foam. This allows the foam to mould to a person’s individual shape and when the pressure is released, it will regain it’s normal shape and form.

Tempur-Pedic we’re one of the first manufactures of this foam, releasing it in the swedish market in 1991. Following this a bundle of manufactures in the U.S, europe and U.K started to manufacture this new specification of foam and bedding manufactures started to implement it into their products.

Memory foam, throughout the decades has been altered with different specifications to improve the product. What we advise at Dreamers Bed Centre that if you have never slept on a memory foam mattress, you are more than likely feel warmer than on a upholstered mattress with natural luxury upholstery such as, lambs wool, cotton, cashmere, bamboo, due to it’s heat retaining properties. Our best selling memory foam mattress which we have run for a number of years now is from Highgrove. The Radiance 1500 & 2000 consists of an open cell structured memory foam that will breathe throughout the night and stay cooler than other compressed closed cell memory foam.

Their Memory Pocket 1000 is one of our most popular mattrsses, with 1000 individual pocket springs that adjust to your profile and provide the upmost support, encased with a foam encapsulation border for edge-to-edge support, as well as added durability, and then topped with a sumptuous 5cm of memory foam.

Many people come into our showroom and ask for a firmer mattress and then enquire about a memory foam topper. A better suggestion would be to purchase a mattress that has the memory foam intergrated into the mattress, as this is going to increase durability and also comfort. When purchasing a mattress and then a topper, the mattress already has a spring system topped with what’s likely to be upholstery for the firmer support. When you place a memory foam topper onto the mattress, the foam may become increasingly warm as the lambs wool and cotton aids warmth throughout your night’s sleep. Not only does it have this negative effect but the springs won’t have the ability to adjust to your profile, especially if the mattress consists of pocket springs, which will align your spine correctly and offer the most durable support.

Our best selling memory foam mattress is from Highgrove, the Radiance 1500 & 2000. As you can see below, the mattress consists of what looks like a topper, but is infact a 3” Layer of V60 memory foam. The mattress consist of either 1500 or 2000 individual pocket springs, with a foam encapsulation edge which provides edge-to-edge support that allows you to utilise the full sleeping width of the mattress. As the memory foam layer lies on top of the spring system, the foam and springs can work in conjuction to provide you with the best night’s sleep. An advantage to having this mattress is that it does not need to be flipped over, just simply rotated, which makes it that much easier for you.
