Types of mattresses Available

Mattresses, including memory foam mattresses, differ by what natural filling is inside of them that controls the overall comfort rating and level of support provided. We stock two types of mattresses for sale.

Pocket spring mattresses

A pocket spring mattress is an excellent choice. Containing individual springs – cushioned in their own pockets of filling – that each work independently to support your body. The spring count can vary and there’s a choice of fillings available to choose from, here at Dreamers.

So, if you and your partner are different weights, or you tend to toss and turn through the night, a pocket sprung mattress is a fantastic investment to ensure you don’t disturb each other and benefit from a peaceful night’s sleep.

Pocket sprung mattresses tend to last 7-10 years before they need replacing. Therefore it is an investment but a worthy one, nevertheless.

Open coil spring mattresses

Open coil spring mattresses offer fantastic value for money and there are often many great deals available on them. They consist of an inter-connected spring system where individual springs are fixed together using a wire.

An open coil spring mattress is a great choice if you sleep alone, or share a bed with someone who’s a similar size, as the springs move as one unit – meaning you’re more likely to disturb your partner if you move around when you sleep.

It’s recommended that you replace this type of mattress within 3-5 years. This is also a great choice if you’re not looking to get rid of your old mattress and invest in a new mattress type right now for your bed frame.

Mattress Tension or Firmness Options

There are few different types of firmness or tension that mattresses can come in, however it varies per individual, when it comes to the preferences. Generally, people have a good idea if they like to sleep on a soft cushioned mattress or an extra firm and harder mattress. Here are the types of firmness that exist:

  • Soft – best for those who move a lot in their sleep
  • Medium – best for those who need a combination of support and softness
  • Medium Firm – best for those who need additional back or spine support e.g. backache sufferers
  • Firm – best for those who need that additional joint support
