Our Stuart James Regal Duchess mattress will take you to heaven and back every night with its sumptuously soft comfort. 1260 handmade calico encased vanadium steel springs along with 4700grams per square metre of luxury layers will create the most tranquil sleep. The Duchess is available with a Soft spring tension, as standard, for that soft comfort or a Medium spring tension if you’d prefer a touch more support. The Regal Duchess also allows you to have individual preference and order this mattress with a Dual Spring System offering a split tension. To complete the Duchess, we have a zonal edge spring system and 3 rows of genuine hand side stitching for the upmost edge to edge support, allowing you to enjoy the full sleeping width of the mattress. It truly is a luxuriously soft mattress, handmade in the U.K.

Calico Springs

The Duchess has TWO layers of 1260 calico encased vanadium steel pocket springs, 2520 springs in total within a 150cm king size mattress. The springs come with either a soft or medium tension, as mentioned above. The soft spring tension gives the Duchess the most dreamy, sumptuously soft comfort but you may prefer a touch more support depending on individual preference.

The mattress can be all one tension with either spring or we offer the dual spring system. The dual spring system offers a bespoke comfort, allowing you to have different tensions on each side of the mattress. The split tension is a perfect solution for different weighted sleepers and for couples who have different sleeping preferences. Our springs are handmade in the U.K using vanadium steel, which is the highest grade steel you can use for a spring. Vanadium steel prolongs the life of the springs and ensures they are more resilient, stronger and moisture resistant. Our vanadium steel springs are calico encased and are 100% cotton, even the thread. This allows the springs to offer a flexible, more durable and far more responsive support when compared to a standard polyprop pocket spring.

Luxury Layers

The Regal Duchess boasts 4700GSM luxury layers of the most high-end luxury fillings on both sides of the mattress. This is made up of eight layers including 500g Pashmina, 200g Bamboo, 1200g European Horsehair & Wool, Silk, Cashmere. A full detail of each layer is available below, we choose and test every layer to ensure it provides the correct feel and support. We guarantee that our spring system and luxury layers will provide a long lasting support.

Handmade & Edge Support

All our Regal mattresses feature a zonal edge spring system. Our calico springs are zoned at the edge to provide you with a superior edge to edge support so you can enjoy the full sleeping width of your mattress. Combined with four rows of genuine hand side stitching, this provides the ultimate edge to edge support.

The hand side stitching is performed by a master craftsman, it takes many years to perfect this skill and it takes over 2.5 hours to give our Regal Duchess 3 rows. The side stitching not only created additional edge support but it is key to longevity.

Hand Tufting

All our Stuart James mattresses are handmade and hand tufted. Hand tufting is the sign of a quality, traditional mattress. It is an age on method by which layers in a mattress are held together and the process anchors the layers of filling by driving a long needle and tufting straps all the way through the mattress. The luxurious layers are pulled together through the springs and then are bound on each side of the mattress, extending the longevity and providing an overall better support.
