Our Stuart James Regal Queen Bed will take comfort to a whole new level with its first-class, luxurious medium comfort. 2520 handmade calico encased vanadium steel springs along with 3650g per square metre of luxury layers will create the most tranquil sleep. The Regal Queen Divan Bed is recommended with our Stuart James Calico Pocket Sprung Base, to further compliment the comfort. The Regal Duchess is available to order with a Dual Spring System offering a split tension, to cater for your individual needs. To complete the Queen, we have a zonal edge spring system and 4 rows of genuine hand side stitching for the utmost edge to edge support, allowing you to enjoy the full sleeping width of the mattress. It truly is a luxuriously comfortable Divan Bed, handmade in the U.K.
Calico Springs
The queen has TWO layers of 1260 calico encased vanadium steel pocket springs, 2520 springs in total within a 150cm king size mattress. The springs come with either a soft or medium tension, the Queen has a luxurious medium comfort, with the split tension allowing for a slightly softer comfort depending on individual preference.
The mattress can be all one tension with either spring, or we offer the dual spring system. The dual spring system offers a bespoke comfort, allowing you to have different tensions on each side of the mattress. The split tension is a perfect solution for different weighted sleepers and for couples who have different sleeping preferences. Why compromise on comfort when you can make the Regal Queen bespoke to you.
Our springs are handmade in the U.K using vanadium steel, which is the highest-grade steel you can use for a spring. Vanadium steel prolongs the life of the springs and ensures they are resilient, strong and moisture resistant. Our vanadium steel springs are encased in a calico bag, which is 100% cotton, including the thread. This allows the springs to offer a flexible, durable, and responsive support when compared to a standard polyprop pocket spring.
Luxury Layers
The Regal Queen boasts 3650GSM luxury layers of the most high-end luxury fillings on both sides of the mattress. This is made up of seven layers including 1200g Alpaca, 250g Pashmina, 1200g Laywool, and more. A full detail of each layer is available below, we choose and test every layer to ensure it provides the correct feel and support. We guarantee that our spring system and luxury layers will provide a long-lasting support.
Handmade & Edge Support
All our Regal mattresses feature a zonal edge spring system. Our calico springs are zoned at the edge to provide you with superior edge to edge support, so you can enjoy the full sleeping width of your mattress. Combined with four rows of genuine hand side stitching, this provides the ultimate edge to edge support.
The hand side stitching is performed by a master craftsman, it takes many years to perfect this skill and it takes over 3 hours to give our Regal Queen 4 rows. The side stitching not only creates additional edge support, but it is key to longevity.
Divan Bed
The Stuart James Queen mattress is recommended with our Calico Pocket Sprung Base. The Pocket Sprung Base features 1000 handmade calico encased vanadium steel pocket springs that will complement the Queen’s comfort further. The pocket sprung base combined with the medium spring within the mattress will be so luxuriously comfy and supportive, you won’t want to get out of bed! This is why our dual spring system is super important, as you may prefer the soft spring in the mattress to give a little bit more comfort, but overall, it will still provide a sumptuously luxurious support.

A standard spring is encased with a polyprop cover,¬where as calico is 100% cotton, even the thread. This allows the spring to be far more flexible, durable and provide a far more responsible support.

Our Regal design allows you to bespoke your comfort, the Duchess has a dual spring system – you can choose between a soft or medium tension spring. The overall tension of the mattress is check but as individuals, everyone is a different weight and everyone will feel a mattress differently. You can have the mattress all one tension of you can even choose different tensions on each side.

The Regal Queen is recommended with our Handcrafted Stuart James Calico Pocket Spring Base, this handmade regal design comes together to create the most luxury support. The Pocket Spring Base features a further 1000 handmade calico pocket springs which will complement the comfort of the mattress.

3650 grams per square metre
The Queen is made up of six luxury layers of upholstery to give you a regal comfort. There are 2750 grams per square metre of filling which consists of Peruvian White Alpaca, Pashmina, Laywool and more. Edge Support
Zoned Springs
With four luxury rows of genuine hand side stitching and a zonal edge spring system, you will be able to enjoy the full sleeping width of your mattress. There are too many handmade mattresses that neglect the edge support, one of the many reasons why we created Stuart James Beds. The zonal edge spring system is exquisite, we use a firmer gauge wire on the springs around the edge of the mattress – as highlighted in the image.

Genuine hand side stitching will give you additional edge to edge support. It takes many years to become an expert and it takes over 3 hours for a master craftsman to manually stitch four rows of side stitching into our Duchess mattress. The side stitching not only creates additional edge support but is key to longevity. We want your mattress to last you many years and this will increase the durability of your mattress and spring.

What type of base do you recommend for a Stuart James Divan Bed?
Every Stuart James Divan Bed offers a different comfort, therefore the base recommended is different for every mattress and for you as an individual. Our Stuart James Regal Duchess Divan Bed for example is recommended with a pocket sprung base as it offers a sumptuously soft comfort and the base not only complements that but ensures you receive a superior support. Where as the Stuart James Regal Princess offers a firm support which is why we would recommend a solid platform top base to reinforce that support. However, our Stuart James Regal Emperor feels great on both a pocket sprung base and a solid platform top. The recommendation would come down to you as an individual. The pocket sprung base offers the true regal, luxury deep comfort with plenty of support from the spring system. Where as, the solid platform top base will offer a further support.
What storage options are available for Stuart James Beds?
All our Stuart James Beds are available with 2 Drawers or 4 Drawers. You can always order a Stuart James Divan Bed with 0 drawers, but a touch of storage is always handy for bedding. If you have been known to overload drawers, our End Lift Ottoman offers the Ultimate Storage Solution and is highly recommended. Our End Lift Ottoman is handmade, reinforced and will allow you to utilise so much wasted space if you haven’t had an ottoman previously.
What are vanadium steel springs?
Our calico springs are made in the U.K. using the finest vanadium steel springs, which are calico encased. A standard spring is encased with a polyprop cover, where as calico is 100% cotton, even the thread. This allows the spring to be far more flexible, durable and provide a far more responsive support.
What does GSM mean?
We refer to GSM when we talk about the amount of layers we put in our mattresses. We want you to know exactly what is in the mattress and what you are paying for. GSM stands for grams per square metre. For example, in our Regal Queen mattress you will find 1200g Laywool, 250g Pashmina, 200g Peruvian White Alpaca, 1000g Alpaca, 1000g Wool/Cotton. This is a total of 3650grams but that’s how many grams is in every square metre of the mattress. All our mattresses are also completely reversible, so the comfort is exactly the same on both sides – that’s a lot of filling!
